I was thinking of something to write while listening to my music player when I heard the High School Musical song "Breaking Free". It reminded me of the female lead singer who sang it - Vanessa Hudgens. Although I have not watched a single episode of it, i do listen to the songs and personally, i find them nice. The songs remind us of our time when we were in high school. There is only one word to describe the perceptions that those actors and actress potray in the movie - Innocence. They portray a squeaky clean image to the audience. Therefore when a nude photo of Vanessa Hudgens was circulated on the Net, I was very surprised. I am sure many people felt the same. This whole incident was blown out of proportion when there was speculation that Disney would terminate their contract with her as her image had been destroyed and that it is bad influence for the audience, especially little kids watching it.
Personally I feel that it is unfair to her. First of all, Vanessa is still an ordinary person. It is not her fault that the mass media has portrayed her as a very innocent girl. Our perception of her as an innocent girl is so deep that it is hard to change it. The way the mass media influences its audience adds fuel to fire. which brings me to the agenda setting function theory. this refers to the media's ability to raise the importance of an issue in the public's eyes through repeated coverage. As such, the seriousness of the issue is exaggerated even though it is jus a small matter. Therefore, using this case as an example, it can be seen that mass media plays an important in shaping world views.

i couldnt believe it too!she is such a stupid s_u_!media exposure/coverage or not, why on earth would you ever take such photos!
now everytime i see "news" about her, all i can think off are her nude pictures.tainted rep man!
i watched hsm 1&2 cos i had disney channel then.but hsm3 is supposedly showing at cinema, so i def wont pay to watch her.
like you mentioned, i think her portrayed image is not entirely true of her real image since she's under Disney's care and management.
it is just that how we have perceived her to be from the media.
disney loves to groom "princesses" Before Vanessa Hudgens, there was an A list of teen pop queens like Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan etc. that have taken their fall from stardom. Personally i feel that Disney markets these people from young with a goodie two shoes image so that when they have their fall from grace, the media will further propel their fame. Even if it is for negative reasons, the stars get to be in the limelight.Media is all about publicity.
yea similarly in the case of christina aguilera . packaged as a princess but was actually not.
well, maybe it also could be the pressure that comes from stardom and fame. not many of these stars start well and end well.
BOOBIES! that's what they call her now. hmm i personally feel that we are forgetting she is a normal human being and quite frankly we don't deserve the right to judge her. before hsm, she had her own life to lead without all these boundaries. perhaps she made a wrong choice in taking those photos, but is it fair to judge her and feel cheated due to what her agency has portrayed her to be? at the end of the day, the media is a business. and every celeb we know is in some way catered and shaped to what consumers want them to be.
She shouldnt have even taken those pictures for her "boyfriend" in the first place. because of the infuence of mass media, everyone rememebers her as "the girl whos nude pictures are on the internet and she in HSM 1/2"
bad bad bad influence to kid below 12
yes i agree that the media really created a big hoohaa over her nude pictures (wait they were only topless right, so it's not THAT bad)
it's only because of her identity and status as a teen idol with growing popularity that the media decided to blow everything out of porportion. if it happened to some ordinary citizen, i'm sure all it would warrant would be a tiny, dismissable little report in the small corner of a news paper.
My goodness, was so supportive of high school musical as their songs were really great. But after mass media's works of shaping viewer's thoughts..everything is gone. Yes, she shouldn't have taken these photos at the first place but it shouldn't be exposed and created to such huge news that tarnish her even further. Quite dumb to do that(ruining herself) but guess I feel for her too..poor girl..wonder if she'll get to do the 3rd musical. Anyway, the kids that watches disney channels shouldnt be able to access her 'nude pictures'.Hopefully she can be saved!
She's in showbiz and should have known that being in the media's eye would lead to her loss of privacy. She ought to have covered her tracks better or just not do those things that will harm her career.
Guess fame got into her head too much.
