The Game Plan

Of course, any movie with Dwayne Johnson would be nice. He's such a good actor. The movie is about a very successful and egoistic bachelor Joe Kingman(Dwayne Johnson) who is given the shock of his life when a little girl turns up at his door step one day claiming to be his daughter. Although shell shocked at first, he finally comes to term with it. The daughter teaches him many moral values. Joe soon learns the most important thing in his life, but not before losing it.
This movie is especially heartwarming, and of course hilarious. It gives new meaning to our lives nowadays. I am sure many of us(me included) do not realize the most important things in our live. These are often lost in our midst of our pursuit of material possessions. I highly recommend everyone out there to watch this movie!
Relating to what I learnt in Communications class, there were many non-verbal communication indicators through out the whole movie. I'll be listing the kinesic code, which is the study of body movement.
Emblem: In one particular scene, Joe holds his daughter's hand and walks out of the tunnel to the field before kissing her on the forehead and hugging out. From his actions, it can be seen that he finally learns to treasure his daughter. By kissing her on the forehead, he tells her non verbally that he will be back for her.
Affect display: In another scene in the first quarter of the show, when Joe just finds out about his daughter, she lies to him about her mother giving her the permission to look for his father. She is able to do so with conviction by making good use of facial and eye behaviour. Her eyes does not wonder about and she keeps a straight face through out. She is also firm and confident about what she says and does not “back away” non verbally. This way, the receivers of the message, Joe and his agent in this case, do not sense anything amiss.
Illustrator: In the same scene, Joe emphasizes the message he is trying to put across by using hand movements to illustrate them. The message would not have been that convincing if he did not use his hands as illustrators of his message. For example, if he were to talk with his hands by his sides, the audience would not have gotten the full meaning of it.
Adaptors: In another scene towards the end of the show, Monique raises her hands and jumps about while cheering on Joe's team. She is displaying adaptors unknowingly and conveys the non verbal emotion that she is very excited and enthusiastic.
