Referring to the article in the newspaper today, “Singaporeans pitch in with big donations”. Personally I feel touched knowing that, contrary to the belief that Singaporeans are stingy in general, there are actually some very generous individuals out there. Deserving special praise is Singaporean business man, Oei Hong Leong, who made a personal donation of $2 million. For a wealthy man like him, that amount of money may not be a lot for him. Nevertheless, it is the thought that counts and the money donated will go a long way in helping the victims of the Sichuan earthquake. Never mind the fact that Singapore is the third largest foreign investor in Sichuan . Like what Minister of State for Defence Koo Tsai Kee said: “This gesture of good will shows the compassion of the Singapore business community and that the ties they have with the province go beyond a pure business relationship.” Some firms that are unable to lend a helping hand financially have also played their part by providing relief effort. We should actually learn from these individuals and firms. They have already set a good example for us. We should always help one another when in need. This applies not only to friends but also to our neighbouring countries. And yes, I am proud to be a Singaporean :D

HAHA I AGREE WITH CLAUDINE TOO! i'm proud to be a singaporean :) ever heard of the saying, what comes around goes around? i'm sure that those who helped out the people who suffered from the earthquake whether it was through donations or actions, are sure to be rewarded some day :)
make sure you do your part too! XD
i believe that everyone has a part to play in this. If we were to me the ones in that situation, we would hope that someone would help and donate for us. Therefore, i believe that we should always help as long as we are able to.

I feel that donations should all come from the heart and yes i agree with you that any amount would help the difference. It is good that in times of need there are still many individuals out there who are very community-minded and this attitude will surely make this world a less harsh and troubled one. We can't solve all problems, but starting small always counts:)
Well there surely are generous people in Singapore. Every year those charity fund-raising shows meet or break expections. That's not something you would expect from a country of supposed stingy people.
